Stop SOPA

Tons of websites, including this one,  are participating in a blackout today to protest SOPA and PIPA. Those of us here in dorklandia support this blackout and urge you to learn about these scary bills. I think the folks over at O’Reilly have summed it up well here.

You can send your senator and your representative opposition letters using the links above. It’s quick and very easy. I don’t like to talk about politics much, which is probably a side effect of growing up near D.C., but this one is real and close to all of us.

Mimic octopus

Like all good dorky girls, I love xkcd. Especially this one:

hooray!

Thing A Day in February

I’ve just registered for Thing-A-Day for the month of February! I’ll be posting my little projects as the month progresses. It’s a great way to fight winter.

On the pluralization of “octopus”

Here’s a little video explaining how to say “more than one octopus” with just one word!

To those who’ve heard me mispronounce “octopodes” zillions of times, mea culpa.

Happy New Year!

Rocket on the Embarcadero

Ohhhhhh this is so exciting! I spent some time last summer working on the amazing Raygun Gothic Rocketship. Today, it got approved to be installed on the Embacadero (which is downtown right on the bay in San Francisco, for those of you who don’t live here)!!

We probably won't be setting off quite this many fireworks or fuel...

Yay!!

incidentally, I don’t know who took this picture. If it was you, please let me know so I can credit you, it’s an amazing shot!

Yum-Yum Bento Box

I went to Japantown after work today, and wound up with fishcake, sushi rice vinegar, and a book called Yum-Yum Bento Box. Impossible to resist, improbable to expect much execution of said bentos by me. But I can pretend.

Still working on presents and other surprises, but here is a picture anyway…

One crazy hippie tie-dye, and one I’m not quite done with, yet. And still more secret plans!

June 3

It’s the sparkly little seamonster, finished at last…

He has green eyes, but they’re a little lost in all that fuzz.

Thing-a-day

I’m going to try to post every day in June, since there aren’t enough pictures or posts going on here. So.

Here’s what I made today:

octofrog? frogtopus? He’s green!

Uncanny!

I have to post this, as it hits so many of my interests in one go: crochet, ukuleles, stop-motion animation, and even Japanese! <3

kawaiii!

Upcoming Show!

I’m happy to say that I will be a part of the Noise Pop Pop n Shop this year. It’s going to be held at the Verdi Club in San Francisco, on Saturday, February 27. Hope to see you there!

This is part of the excellent Noise Pop Festival, which probably now qualifies for the word “venerable.” So many great bands, new movies, and all sorts of fun. I’ve loved it every year I’ve lived in this town. This year, I’m most excited about !!!, Mark Kozelek, Paula Frazier, and the Magnetic Fields. And Atlas Sound. And, wow, Yoko Ono. I saw Yoko Ono in New York a really long time ago, and while I don’t consider myself a fan, exactly, she is an amazing performer.
