More Upcoming Events!

This coming weekend, dorklandia will be at the new Treasure Island Flea Market! If you live in the Bay Area and haven’t been to Treasure Island, you are missing out. It’s a spooky weird place, and I’m excited to spend a couple of days hanging out there.

Next, on June 4th, I will be parading my ice cream cart on Market Street as part of the Cries of San Francisco. This is going to be pretty funny, there will be approximately 70 artists wandering around Market between 3rd and 5th, selling their own wares and other oddities. I’m particularly excited to see the insect antenna vendor and the Psychic Plumbing Network.

Maker Faire 2011

I am getting ready for the Maker Faire, which will happen this weekend. I’ll have the ice cream cart again this year, but there is a new twist: I bought a real ice cream cart! Of course, it needed some work. Here is a before shot:

Crafty Wonderland

I’m happy to say that I will be at Portland’s Crafty Wonderland this year! I had a great time during their spring sale last year, and am very excited to be able to go back and visit such a nifty city.

I’ll be at table 45, and will have octopi, cat sticks, and rotten apples in tow. See you there?

WonderCon!

I am so excited to announce that dorklandia will be exhibiting at WonderCon this year! This is happening this weekend, April 1 – 3 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. I’ll have new things to show, and you can take a chance at winning a tiny octopus from my capsule machine!

Thing A Day in February

I’ve just registered for Thing-A-Day for the month of February! I’ll be posting my little projects as the month progresses. It’s a great way to fight winter.

FabMo and Adventures with Upholstery Fabric

This weekend, I got to go to one of FabMo‘s distribution events! FabMo is a nifty group of folks who collect upholstery samples, mostly, from places that would ordinarily discard them. They then have monthly open houses where you can go and browse through and take home pretty much as much fabric as suits your fancy. Here’s what I wound up with:

new fabric library

I then spent a bunch of time working with sewing upholstery fabric. I have learned two things so far:

1. Use bigger seam allowances!

2. Turning it inside out is… challenging!

Still, it’s been pretty fun, and I hope to have some new things to show quite soon!

On the pluralization of “octopus”

Here’s a little video explaining how to say “more than one octopus” with just one word!

To those who’ve heard me mispronounce “octopodes” zillions of times, mea culpa.

Happy New Year!
